Utricularia quelchii

June 2019

An epiphytic species I used to have in my first terrarium, and that makes a great candidate for the tree fern panel in the new one. It’s an rather easy grower, and I had not much trouble making it produce its beautiful magenta flowers.

Utricularia quelchii arrived in a little ball of peat with a bit of weight to it, but I managed to make it hold onto the vertical panel amidst old moss setae. A few weeks after, it had already produced a few new leaves, which attests to a certain vigor that I don’t see with U. campbelliana.

It does hold in place, but don’t ask me how. The plant is located quite close to the top of the terrarium, so I will have to ensure proper hydration.
